We walk the line with you, measure it properly, put a bar in the ground in a couple of places to see what we are digging, look at how we get materials in, and check where the boundary actually runs against what you believe.
You do not need to prepare anything, though three things speed it up: knowing which side is yours, having spoken to the neighbour if the boundary is shared, and clearing enough of the run that we can see the ground. If any of that is unresolved, the survey is the right time to find out rather than the first morning of the job.
Fill the form in first even if you want a visit. It takes four questions, and arriving at the survey with a range already agreed means the conversation is about the spec rather than about whether you can afford it.

Nothing up front. We do not take a deposit to hold a date, and we do not ask for money before there is a van outside your house. Materials are invoiced the day we start, and the balance is due on completion once you have seen the finished run.
That works because the quote is built from real costs rather than a guess, so we are not funding a job we have priced blind. If the price changes between survey and completion it will be because you asked for something different, or because we found something buried and showed you the cost before touching it.

Wargrave questions
How soon after the quote can you survey?
Within 24 hours of your quote email landing, which is the whole point of pricing it online first. You get a range immediately and a person on site the next day rather than a fortnight of waiting for someone to ring back. The survey itself is about twenty minutes and there is no charge for it.
Do I have to have a survey?
For anything we are going to build, yes. The instant quote is an estimate and we will not turn an estimate into an invoice without having stood on the ground. It protects you as much as us — it is where a buried wall, a services run or a boundary in the wrong place gets found, and finding it before the work starts is a great deal cheaper than after.
Do you take a deposit?
No. Nothing is payable until the day we start, when we invoice for materials, and the balance falls due on completion. If a fencing firm wants money before there is anything on site, ask them why.
What if the price changes after the survey?
Then we tell you before anything happens, and you decide. Most surveys confirm the emailed range rather than move it. The ones that move are where something on the ground differs from what was described — harder digging, an access route that does not exist, or a run that measures longer than paced. You will see the revised figure in writing and you are free to walk away from it.
